I took my first yoga classes in 1996, but it wasn't until 2000 that my heart felt the need for something more and I came to a regular yoga practice. In 2002, I had the great blessing of finding Anusara Yoga®, an uplifting style of hatha yoga that combines precise alignment instruction with a life-affirming philosophy.
I made the journey into teaching in late 2004 and am honored to have studied with many great teachers, including John Friend, Sianna Sherman, Mitchel Bleier, Naime Jezzeny, Sue Elkind, Todd Norian, Ann Greene, Amy Ippoliti, Desiree Rumbaugh, Noah Maze and many others. On May 7, 2009, I became the first certified Anusara Yoga teacher in Indiana, through one of the most rigorous yoga certification programs. I am also a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance at the RYT 500 and ERYT 200 level. While I am no longer affiliated with Anusara Yoga, I still draw on much of what I learned for my own teaching as well as drawing on inspiration from many sources.
I live in Indianapolis with my husband, Niels, and two daughters, Annabella and Hazel. In addition to teaching yoga, I worked in the environmental field for 13 years. In 2015, I transitioned to staying home with my girls and teaching yoga. I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, experimenting with healthy meals, trail running, and aerial silks. I have started to train in the art of Thai Yoga Massage, which may be a future offering!
My classes are a blend of flow, detailed alignment instruction, and themes to connect more deeply to the heart. I like to challenge my students, while honoring their boundaries. There is no pose that is ever complete, it can always be evolved. The same goes for each of us…we can always evolve and grow on many levels and my classes help to empower that evolution of body, mind, and heart! My favorite part of teaching is seeing the shift in students from beginning to end of class and offering a big Namaste!
